I must admit trying Linux again, after a unsuccessful attempt in 2007, has been a decision well made. I currently run Mint 11 on one computer and Ubuntu 11.04 on another. My 8 yr old daughter can even navigate the unity desktop in a breeze, it’s as if she has been using it for years! I am not so keen on unity myself as I like the classic desktop. Anyhow enough of my ramblings, here are some more useful Linux resources for your perusal.

Being a big fan of jQuery I have put together a selection of jQuery tutorials. Tutorials that range from simple tooltips to navigation menus and image galleries. Do you have any favourite tutorials or do you reach straight for the plugins?

Here is a simple little snippet that uses jQuery to enable or disable text input boxes in forms using a checkbox. When disabling the text boxes it prompts you to confirm it so that you don’t accidentally delete your data. This might be useful for forms elements that need to be enabled or disabled when a certain checkbox is checked like on an options page.

I have been learning jQuery alongside PHP to help with my event manager project. Here is a tutorial on how to get the values of a checkbox array, post it via a jQuery Ajax call and subsequently delete the values from an MYSQL database. This tutorial also makes use of the jQuery UI which we will use to display our dialogues. This script is now deprecated, the source code is no longer maintained.

No doubt you will have heard of spam, phishing, viruses and trojans by now. After all they are constantly a threat to our security and it is the main reason why we have firewalls and anti-viruses on our computers. Threats are not entirely computer based though you may be also subject to telephone calls from people pretending to be from your ISP or even from Microsoft themselves! Be aware of the scammer!

Following on from getting to grips with PHP Checkboxes I decided to write a little tutorial on radio buttons. As you know radio buttons can only have 1 state either on or off and only one can be selected at any one time. Back in 2007, I discovered a Linux OS called Ubuntu and how everybody was raving about it. I tried it on my desktop computer and I could not get my wireless USB stick to work so I gave up. Roll on 2 years and I was slightly curious again so I installed a different distro, this time Mandriva. Everything worked perfect and I was instantly converted.

Using a slideshow on the homepage, with stunning imagery related to your company, and making it interactive is always a great idea if you want to leave a lasting first impression on a website visitor. It makes them more likely to spend time on your website and get to know your business better. This way you can make sure they read your most important content, and eventually buy your products, or check out your services.

I have been using Comodo Internet Security since it’s initial release and it just keeps getting better and better. However whilst trying to install the most recent version 4.0 which was released on March 03 2010 I encountered an installation error 1603. Naturally I cleared all the junk files, disabled unnecessary services, cleared the registry and still couldn’t get it to work until I came across a handy clean up tool which cleans up leftover data from the previous installations.
